- Title
Graphene production: From nanotubes to nanoribbons.
- Authors
Vaughan, Owain
- Abstract
The article discusses two studies published in "Nature" which showed that graphene nanoribbons can be produced from multiwalled carbon nanotubes. Hongjie Dai and colleagues carried out plasma etching to cut open nanotubes that had been partially embedded in a polymer film while James Tour and colleagues used a solution-based oxidative process to unfurl the nanotubes and a chemical reduction step was made to remove chemical groups. Both research teams indicated the quality of their nanoribbons through using them to make field-effect transistors.
