- Authors
GARCÍA BAEZA, ANTONIO
- Abstract
The Sevillian painter Francisco de Herrera Hinestrosa reached the peak of his profession with his appointment as Master of Works to the Alcázar in Madrid and other royal residences. He obtained this post during the governorship of Juan de Austria both for his knowledge of architecture and construction and his political abilities. In the eight years that Herrera headed the construction team of this body, which had no funding, he became a reference point for younger painters, both for his competence and for the fact that became a champion of their professional claims, which were seen as interference by architects.
