- Abstract
In many ways, stigma is still attached to mental health issues. Illinois Children’s Mental Health Partnership provides grants to open honest dialogue about mental health to educate society and remove associated stigma. A Say It Out Loud program was developed at large Midwest public university that involved multi-pronged approach to initiate conversation and change. Elements included art show. classroom presentations, keynote presentations, mental health first aid (MHFA) training, movie presentation, open microphone for music and poetry, and development of a website. Statistically significant increases were found in pre-post survey on participants’ ability to describe mental health stigma, seek mental health help for self and others, and speak about mental health with people they know and do not know after MHFA, classroom presentations, and keynote presentation.
