- Abstract
The topic of counteracting the spread of narcotics in Bulgaria in the first half of the twentieth century occupies its place in the foreign and domestic policy of the country. In the period 1919-1944 the Bulgarian state was involved by its own and foreign citizens in the international network for illegal production and distribution of "black drugs" in the Eastern Mediterranean. The article traces the smuggling of hashish and the reaction of the Bulgarian authorities against the illegal cultivation and trade in Indian hemp.
