- Abstract
This article discusses the effects of parental mental illness on families and parenting, with focus on three disorders, namely depression, borderline personality disorder, and psychosis. It highlights key features of the disorders, outlines their impact on parenting and on children, and notes implications for mental health practice. Included are some intervention programs and good practice principles which promise improved outcomes on infants.
