- Abstract
The journalistic works of Thémiseul de Saint-Hyacinthe, by and large forgotten today, deserves to be rediscovered. Certainly, Saint-Hyacinthe died in abject poverty, and his last periodical showed an abandonment of writing principles he had lauded in his youth. But, with the Journal littéraire and L'Europe savante, he was first a leader of small communities of journalists who demanded and established a way of working that was both confraternal and egalitarian. The idea of a collective voice, which was a complete break from the traditional impersonal voice of academic journals, didn't survive the tensions and crises that divided these editorial boards. Despite their failure, these attempts contributed to the start of a journalistic power that had already found its legitimacy in the cohesiveness of a voice that was both plural and unanimous.
