- Title
After the Revolution: "The Ring" in the Light of Wagner's Dresden and Zurich Projects.
- Authors
Millington, Barry
- Abstract
A literary criticism is presented which examines some of the prominent works of German composer Wilhelm Richard Wagner. Wagner's intended drama or opera on Frederick Barbarossa was to tell the story of the struggle between the Ghibellines, headed by Barbarossa, and the Guelfs, headed by the Duke of Saxony, Henry the Lion. Furthermore, the article presents information on the essay "The Wibelungs," by Wagner, which deploys an astonishing breadth of knowledge of mythology, literature and history. In "The Wibelungs," Wagner elaborates the background to the aborted drama Frederick I, retelling some of the legends of the ancient Indian peoples.
