An essay is presented literary influences and criticisms to the works of novelist Nathaniel Hawthorne. It discusses the aspects of primarily reconstruction of historical milieus and its exemplary humanist concern on aesthetics. It cites the uniqueness of Hawthorne's literary forms from other 19th-century American authors. It also notes on the concept of intertextuality in Saussurean linguistics and pyschoanalytics.
