- Abstract
The article profiles a Literacy Lead teacher's strategy of involving her students' families in literacy. The demography of the urban school district in Northeastern Ohio where this teacher works is described. Her interest in using poetry at the kindergarten level for emergent literacy is noted. The kinesthetic motions that she trains kindergarten teachers to use when teaching students the letter sounds in the poetry separately from reading the text are explored. Teachers' suggestion to ask parents to have their children perform or show them the kinesthetic motions rather than formal parent training is discussed.
