- Abstract
The article reports on parapoxviruses (PPVs), and the envelope gene of pseudocowpox virus isolates' complete nucleotide sequence. PPVs are epitheliotropic viruses that are found abundantly. Individual viruses commonly display a narrow host range, infect through scarified or damaged skin and cause pustular lesions of the skin and sometimes the buccal mucosa. PPvs can cause camelpox, a highly contagious viral disease affecting mostly young animals.
