- Abstract
This letter to the editor is a response to an article titled "Use of statins in patients with established idiopathic inflammatory myopathies." The authors express their appreciation for the research conducted by Shinjo and colleagues, which highlights the high prevalence of metabolic syndrome and dyslipidemia in patients with dermatomyositis and polymyositis. The authors conducted their own retrospective investigation, using mean creatine phosphokinase (CPK) levels as an indicator of muscle health in patients prescribed statins. Their findings align with Shinjo et al.'s research, suggesting that statin exposure does not pose a significant risk to patients with inflammatory myopathies. The authors hope that their combined efforts will challenge the perception that statins are risky for these patients and encourage further exploration into the effects of statins on different inflammatory myopathy phenotypes.
