The article looks at the philosophical and religious beliefs of 17th-century Venetian scholar and church reformer Paolo Sarpi. Particular attention is given to how Sarpi's religious beliefs seemed to contradict his support of natural philosophy theories as well as the science of his era. The author goes on to examine Sarpi's views on the immortality of the soul as well as the Jesuits' accusations of heresy against him.
