Annotating Purgatorio 5.103-129.
- Authors
Ransom, Daniel J.
- Abstract
The article offers poetry criticism of Dante Alighieri's epic poem "Divina Commedia: Purgatorio." It explores the use of theology from the work of St. Thomas Aquinas in his "Summa theologica," St. Augustine, and St. Paul regarding whether angels and demons can control weather. Similarities between the death of Dante's character Buonconte de Montefeltro and the occurrence of storms at the deaths of medieval British rulers including King John and King Henry I are also discussed.
