- Abstract
The article presents a framework for measuring the validity and appropriateness of multicultural materials for inclusion in the music curriculum. Selecting multicultural music and materials should not be viewed as a Herculean task. Awareness, knowledge, and understanding are effective tools for selecting music with integrity. To familiarize students with music with cultural context, the materials selected, should meet some level of authenticity. To gauge the level of authenticity, find out the social level it occupies in a particular culture. Look for publishers who are reputable and reliable and closely scrutinize the musician's training, performing experience, or cultural heritage. .
