- Abstract
The article reports on a study by Lisa Coussens and David DeNardo which demonstrates that CD4+ T cells can promote metastasis in a mouse model of breast cancer through their influence on macrophages. It is noted that macrophages can mediate metastasis of malignant mammary epithelial cells by secreting epidermal growth factor. Findings in the study suggest that targeting CD4+ T cells and interleukin 4 could suppress the formation of metastasis in breast cancer patients.
