- Abstract
Alongwith the other branches of medicine, stomatological medicine recorded extraordinary progress, of exponential level, indeed. In everyday practice, the scientific advances have been assimilated either as diagnostic and therapeutical arguments or as pragmatic procedures applicable for reaching a correct diagnosis and optimum therapeutical solutions. The effects of the informational outburst soon appeared, with both positive and negative implications. Among the worst ones, mention should be first made of the introduction of abusive investigations, which affect patient's financial condition and, secondly, neglection of the morphological, functional and clinical situation, viewed globally. Numerous specialties, specializations and specialists have emerged in stomatological medicine, yet without the support of sufficient practical regulations. On the other side, the stomatologist manifests multiple abilities which, in certain cases, may cover all specialized procedures. Even if, sooner or later, the still missing regulations will come intro force, the authors back up the preeminence of a holistic vision in the theory and practice of stomatological medicine.
