- Abstract
Food allergy is an adverse reproducible immune reaction to ingested proteins.1 It carries a substantial burden on healthcare resources, and diagnosis may be complex and delayed due to a lack of awareness and access to diagnostic tests. A double-blind, placebo-controlled food challenge (DBPCFC) is considered the gold-standard method for the diagnosis of food allergy.2 However, the test itself can be expensive and time-consuming and is infrequently used outside of research, except cases where there is high anxiety or suspected placebo effect. Conducting an oral food challenge: an update to the 2009 adverse reactions to foods committee work group report.
