- Abstract
Study of traumas is very important because their analysis offers insight into life, and sometimes also the cause of death of an individual. What is even more important in bioarcheological research, study of traumas offers insight in the amount and distribution of violence in the population. In this work the authors will make a comprehensive analysis of traumas on the sample of five Iron Age sites (with the Liburnian population) on the total of 96 adults as well as on the sample of the Romanera population from the Salonitan necropolis Smiljanovac (195 adults). In this way we will try to shed some light on the way of life, total size of the settlement and general medical knowledge necessary for successful treatment of traumas. The authors consider occurence of the traumas in a population as a separate phenomenon for the first time and try to answer the question if there is a statistically significant increase of amount of violence and progress in medicine in antiquity in direct analogy with the Salonitan Roman-era population.
