- Abstract
The article examines whether clinical trial participants in India are adequately safeguarded by the ethics committees (EC) of the country's Central Drugs Standard Control Organization. Topics include instances of unethical trials being conducted in India and globally, the suboptimal awareness and knowledge of EC members regarding various important bioethics concepts, and the need to mandate accreditation of ECs and a check list based scoring system to review protocols.
