- Abstract
This review discusses the book "Peasants in world history" by Jan Douwe Vanhaute, which focuses on the history of peasants from 10,000 BCE to the present. The book follows a "peasant frontiers" approach, organizing each chapter around the concept of frontiers. The review highlights the author's embedded perspective in the peasantist approach, which emphasizes the agency and importance of peasants in history. It also discusses the processes of de-agrarianization and de-peasantization, as well as the potential for re-agrarianization and re-peasantization. The review concludes that the book fills a gap in historical studies on peasants and is suitable for students and general readers.
