- Abstract
Platelet-rich plasma (PRP) is an autologue concentrate of human platelets and a source of different growth factors that may improve the healing of tissues and bone recovery, due to its bone-inducing qualities. Its high concentration of platelets acts in the wake of a trauma through the activation of the platelets and release of growth factors that act in the bone recovery process. Osteoporosis is an osteometabolic illness characterized by loss of bone mass and by the deterioration of the micro-architecture of the bone tissue with subsequent bone fragility and fracture prone. PRP may be done in situations with the least chances of success such as bone transplants in total lack of teeth with highly reabsorbed jaws and in patients with osteoporosis. Current paper provided a revised bibliography on the applicability of PRP to restitute lost bone tissue due to osteoporosis. Platelet gel is thus used to regenerate bone in osteoporosis. Results show that damages caused by osteoporosis may be minimized by PRP that restitutes, even partially, lost bone tissue.
