- Abstract
Ni(II) complexes of the general formula [Ni(L)Cl] where L = Schiff base ligand, were synthesized from series of tridentate Schiff bases. The prepared compounds were characterized by different spectral analysis (FTIR and UVvisible) and various physicochemical methods (elemental analysis, magnetic susceptibility and molar conductance). One selected complex was subjected to thermogravimetric and X-ray diffraction analysis. The spectral data revealed coordination of Schiff base ligand through ester carbonyl, azomethine nitrogen and deprotonated phenolate oxygen with Ni(II) ion to form distorted square planer complexes. Ni(II) complexes on evaluation against Drug-Resistant Extended Spectrum β-Lactamase (ESBL), Metallo β-lactamase (MBL) producing uropathogens and some laboratory cultures exhibited promising antimicrobial activity. These compounds were also tested against Mycobacterium tuberculosis to exhibit moderate antitubercular activity.
