Nonreligious Second-Generation Chinese Americans.
- Authors
Jin Kim, Helen; Jeung, Russell
- Abstract
The article examines the spiritual beliefs and practices of second-generation Chinese Americans who describe themselves as nonreligious. According to the authors, gendered disparities among this group demonstrate that Chinese American women are socialized to adopt the beliefs and practices of their mothers, who are often observant, while men are socialized to adopt the beliefs and practices of their less observant fathers. The role of selective migration in Chinese American culture is discussed.
