- Abstract
The article presents a research which aims to examine whether fasting plasma concentration of a stable 117-amino acid fragment from the neurotensin precursor hormone proneurotensin is associated with development of diabetes mellitus, cardiovascular disease, breast cancer and mortality. It informs that neurotensin regulates both satiety and breast cancer growth but its role in the development of breast cancer or cardiometabolic disease in humans is less known. Neurotensin is a 13- amino acid peptide which is expressed in the central nervous system and gastrointestinal tract. It is concluded that proneurotensin is associated with the development of diabetes, cardiovascular disease, breast cancer and with cardiovascular mortality.
