- Abstract
The article examines the food contamination legends and criticism of the economy in Soviet Union which were the reasons behind the emergence of the Tartu sausage factory rumour in Estonia. It cites the explanation of folklorist Ülo Tedre for the Tartu sausage factory in which meat products and sausages sold at the market were suspected from human meat. It also notes the role of legends in voicing the opinions of people about the strategies of the post-war Soviet economy and ideology.
