- Abstract
The article examines how the 1931 death and settlement of Baghadai Jew Silas Aaron Hardoon's estate provides insight on issues related to role Jews played in the colonial process, the legal meaning of Great Britain's British Protected Person category and imperialism during the interwar period. It explores the role social class played in the colonial process, it discusses the Baghdadi Jewish diaspora of the 19th and 20th centuries and examines the shift towards sovereignty and nationalization of individuals that occurred in the 20th century.
