- Abstract
The low back pain is very common in the worldwide population, affecting young as well as adults of both genders, causing discomfort and limitations for jobs and activities of daily living (ADL's). Almost 80% of the population is affected in some moment of their lives. The treatment represents a high cost for the health system, due to the high rate of incapacity and absence from work. Nowadays rehabilitation techniques for chronic low back pain have been conducted to exercise programs of central stabilization to achieve balance of the lumbo-pelvic-hip complex. The purpose of this study was to assess the impact of Central Stabilization Exercises Program (CSEP) related to pain and muscular resistance on lumbo-pelvic-hip complex in patients with chronic low back pain. This study was composed by eleven women and one man, mean age 57.16 years. Ten (10) sessions of specific training were performed with two weekly sessions of 50 minutes each, and data was collected before and after the training period, using the Visual Analog Scale (VAS) to measure pain and the period of permanence during three maneuvers: supine bridge (B), supine bridge with dominant leg extended (C) and prone bridge (A). Regarding muscle resistance, the results indicated a significant improvement in patients with chronic low back pain when compared with average time before and after the CSEP, and the results using VAS showed that all participants had improvement in reducing pain after the program. The CSEP was significant to reduce pain and increase muscle strength in the lumbo-pelvic-hip complex in individuals with chronic low back pain.
