- Abstract
Objective To explore the effect of acupoint massage combined with decoction of tonifying Qi, nourishing blood, and soothing liver on the postpartum hypogalactia. Methods A total of 180 puerperae with postpartum hypogalactia who gave birth at the Second Affiliated Hospital of Guizhou University of Traditional Chinese Medicine from June 2019 to December 2020 were selected as the research objects. They were assigned to three groups by random number table method: an acupoint massage group, a tonifying Qi, nourishing blood, and soothing liver group, and an acupoint massage combined with tonifying Qi, nourishing blood, and soothing liver group ( referred to as “ combined group”), each with 60 cases. All puerperae received routine postpartum nursing. The acupoint massage group was additionally treated with acupoint massage. The tonifying Qi, nourishing blood, and soothing liver group was additionally treated with decoction of tonifying Qi, nourishing blood, and soothing liver. The combined group was additionally treated with acupoint massage combined with decoction of tonifying Qi, nourishing blood, and soothing liver. The milk volume, breast fullness degree, lactation grade, and serum prolactin ( PRL) level before and after nursing were compared among the three groups. Results After 3 days and 1 week of nursing, the milk volume of the three groups was higher than that before nursing (all P < 0. 05), and the milk volume of the combined group was higher than that of the acupoint massage group and the tonifying Qi, nourishing blood, and soothing liver group (all P < 0. 05). After 1 week of nursing, the milk volume of the three groups was higher than that after 3 days of nursing (all P < 0. 05). After 1 week of nursing, the scores of breast fullness degree and lactation grade of the combined group were higher than those of the acupoint massage group and the tonifying Qi, nourishing blood, and soothing liver group (all P < 0. 05), and the incidence of postpartum hypogalactia was lower than that of the acupoint massage group and the tonifying Qi, nourishing blood, and soothing liver group (both P < 0. 05). After 3 days and 1 week of nursing, the PRL level of the three groups was higher than that before nursing (all P < 0. 05), and the PRL level of the combined group was higher than that of the acupoint massage group and the tonifying Qi, nourishing blood, and soothing liver group ( all P < 0. 05) . After 1 week of nursing, the PRL level of the three groups was higher than that after 3 days of nursing ( all P < 0. 05 ) . Conclusion Acupoint massage combined with decoction of tonifying Qi, nourishing blood, and soothing liver can prevent postpartum hypogalactia and promote maternal milk secretion.
