- Abstract
Animal Husbandry is making a significant contribution to the economy and socioeconomic development in Agra district of Uttar Pradesh. Among various species of livestock, buffaloes are the major contributors from the district. Delivery of animal husbandry and veterinary services are provided by State Government through the animal husbandry department and Krishi Vigyan Kendra to the farmers. However, in the absence of greater mobility in interior rural areas, most of the services were confined to the periphery of these centers. In the absence of efficient services, animal keepers in interior areas could not take advantage of these centers. In this regard, Animal Scientist of Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Bichpuri, Agra played a lead role by coordinating dairy farmers with mobile phone. The use of mobile phone through Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Bichpuri, Agra is new ICT initiatives to meet the needs and expectations of the dairy farmers. The above study was conducted by KVK, Bichpuri from 2010 to 2014. A total number of 6200 dairy farmers contacted animal scientist for 8850 problems of milch animals pertaining to breeding (28.03%), feeding (19.62%) and management (52.35%). Among them, most of the problems were related to mastitis, infertility, repeats breeding, low milk yield of dairy animals, parasites etc. Thus the transfer of technology disseminated via communication through mobile phone can play a great role in enhancing the efficiency of extension system by reaching to large number of animal keepers. These practices proved as a boon to animal farmers' community of the district for better management of livestock. Thus it can be concluded that the mobile advisory is very useful and beneficial for the livestock owners of remote areas for getting more and more profit through Krishi Vigyan Kendras.
