- Abstract
This article reports on a case study of a 46-year-old woman with multiple comorbidities who developed liver abscesses caused by a vancomycin- and linezolid-resistant strain of Enterococcus faecium (EF-PD-1305). The patient was treated with oritavancin, an off-label use of the drug, and showed favorable clinical outcomes with complete resolution of the abscesses. Molecular characterization and sequencing of the EF-PD-1305 isolate revealed a variety of resistance genes and mutations associated with antibiotic resistance. This case highlights the potential efficacy of oritavancin as a treatment option for complicated cases of vancomycin- and linezolid-resistant Enterococcus infections.
