- Abstract
"Poverty and Wealth in East Africa: A Conceptual History" by Rhiannon Stephens explores the evolution of the concepts of wealth and poverty in Eastern Uganda over two millennia. The book focuses on thirteen different languages belonging to the Bantu and Nilotic linguistic families and examines how these concepts have changed over time. Stephens uses a multidisciplinary approach, drawing on anthropology, archaeology, and historical linguistics. The book provides valuable insights into the diverse and complex conceptual and semantic worlds behind the ideas of wealth and poverty in East Africa.
