This article presents an interview with retired General Lee Butler of the U.S. Air Force. Topics of the interview include the high alert status of the U.S.' land-based weapons such as the Minuteman missiles, Lee's role in persuading the administration of President George H.W. Bush to take the U.S.' nuclear bombers off high alert while he was commander of U.S. nuclear forces, and his decision to order a major revision of the list of nuclear targets when he commanded the Strategic Air Command.
