- Abstract
The article discusses some of the key aspects of head shape that makes it more efficient and accurate in the identification of the Greater and Lesser Scaup than relying on crown shape. The crown profile of Greater Scaup is rounded but not actually circular while the peak of the crown of Lesser Scaup is more pronounced and positioned well behind the eye. The head of Greater Scaup is large while that of Lesser Scaup is tall. Other characteristics described include eye placement, head thickness and the shape and coloration of bill.
