- Abstract
I FloodZone i will certainly not be the last photographic documentary work dealing with climate change, and Samoylova herself already has several more books planned based on this initial experience as well as on the issue of forest fires (another topic related to climate change). It is related to this theme that Samoylova has crafted her most interesting images from the standpoint of interpretation. The book is beautifully printed with cloth hardcover featuring a striking green and black image of an American alligator resting in what appears to be a stagnant pool, an image that establishes the overall foreboding tone of the book. According to the publisher, Steidl Press, Anastasia Samoylova's I FloodZone i is a "photographic account of life on the climatic knife-edge of the southern United States.... Subtle and often unsettling images capture the mood of waiting, knowing the climate is changing, but living with it" (back cover).
