- Abstract
The article discusses the link between alendronate and focal segmental glomerulosclerosis (FSGS). It defines alendronate sodium as a bisphosphonate that is used for postmenopausal osteoporosis. It describes the case of a 55-year-old Caucasian woman with hypertension and proteinuria. The beneficial effect of bisphosphonates on bone resorption is explained. It also recommends frequent monitoring of renal function and urine protein excretion for the early detection of renal injury.
