- Abstract
The article discusses the case of a 34-year-old man with hypercalcaemia, hyperphosphataemia and severe secondary hyperparathyroidism who is on regular haemodialysis regimen. He refused to undergo parathyroidectomy and opted instead for intravenous paricalcitol at low doses for one year, since treatment with calcitriol triggers episodes of cardiovascular calcification. The efficacy of paricalcitol in the treatment of chronic kidney disease patients gave relevance to the use of vitamin D replacement therapy.
