- Abstract
The article analyzes the variety of legislative approaches that U.S. states have taken to codify strangulation laws and suggests possible solutions to improve the enforcement of strangulation laws to protect victims and increase offender accountability. It defines non-fatal strangulation and discusses the necessity of stand-alone felony strangulation laws. It examines statutory and evidentiary challenges to prosecution of strangulation such as lack of visible injury and victim cooperation.
