- Title
De espacios, fronteras, territorios: topografías literarias de la Frontera Norte (México).
- Authors
Gewecke, Frauke
- Abstract
The article centers on spaces - physical/material as well as sociocultural and symbolic spaces - comprehending space/place not in its metaphorical sense but as appropriated social space. By analyzing different novels and short stories written by outstanding authors of Mexican Northern Border literature, different literary topographies or "spaces of representation" (Lefebvre) are revealed: the rural world, which (still) offers an identitary space, "site of memory" (Augé) par excellence; the border city, from the rural perspective perceived as space of difference, of the Other; and the border/borderlands as a transnational space, which, from the Mexican side, is not seen as a transfrontera in a "transfrontier metropolis" (Herzog), but as a frontera-limite which separates.
