- Abstract
On July 1936 the Spanish civil war begins, both sides have as the most pressing problems establishing a wellfunctioning information service. In the case of the Francoists, in addition to the military information, they had the support of various private organizations which, with varying degrees of success, set up different offices to provide as much information and help as possible. This article explores the into-history of what was the most important private information service of the Francoist regime: The SIFNE was set up around the border with France with the support of aristocrats, diplomats, and other personalities, many of them from Catalonia, which was considered a handicap at some point.
