- Abstract
The article discusses the history of Deaf education in Yi's Joseon Dynasty era. In the late 19th century, the education and social works for the Deaf were obliged by American Christian missionaries. Deaf students used hand gestures and motions despite learning the Korean oral language in Pyongyang School for the Deaf. The establishment of the Keijo branch of the Japanese Deaf Association started to develop into various fields of the Korean Deaf society after World War II.
