- Abstract
The authors provide an overview of forensic risk assessment instruments frequently used in German-speaking countries. The appropriateness of these instruments for female offenders is being examined. More specifically, the Psychopathy Checklist-Revised, the Violence Risk Appraisal Guide, the Historical Clinical Risk Management-20, and the Level of Service Inventory-Revised are surveyed. Background information is provided as well as empirical findings. Then, data from two studies from other authors are presented, focusing on the assessment of women in criminal proceedings and applying 3 or 4 of the instruments mentioned above, respectively. Both studies yielded evidence of some degree of criterion validity with regard to future offending. A generalization from these studies, however, is hardly feasible. The implications for using risk assessment instruments with female defendants or convicts in German-speaking countries are discussed.
