- Abstract
The article highlights the evolution of incretin-based therapies, which significantly improved therapy of diabetes due to its antidiabetic effects and its beneficial impact on blood pressure, dyslipidemia, weight loss and potential cardioprotective and neuroprotective effects. Topics discussed include the benefits brought by glucagon-like peptide 1 (GLP-1) and glucose-dependent insulinotropic polypeptide (GIP) and the results of its use on animal models.
