- Abstract
Problems associated with the communication processes between Alzheimer's patients and their caregivers is suggested to be related to the memoryfailure of the Alzheimer's patient. In this study we explored the ways in which the Alzheimer's patient's recall ability of verbally communicated information may be improved. TWo strategies that werefound to be effective were: (1) simultaneous presentation of pictorial and verbal information; and (2) the enhanced reproduction of the processed information through the provision of response chosen. Findings from this study suggest that the A lzheim ers m em ory deficit does not globally affect the overallprocessingstrategies and that communication may improve ifothermodes of communication are introduced.
