The article focuses on American artist Janet Shafner and South African and Israeli artist Shirley Faktor, of whom works describe the frailty of human flesh and the melancholy of internal lives of women. It states that Shafner and Faktor lived in rich personal family and professional obligations and have deep ties to different aspects of Jewish culture and life. It says that oatriarchal Judaism is central to the art of Shafner, while Faktor's art focus on Israel's difficult national legacy.
