- Title
THE SAVAGE AUDIENCE: LOOKING AT HITCHCOCK'S THE BIRDS.
- Authors
Abramson, Leslie H.
- Abstract
The article critiques the film "The Birds" directed by Alfred Hitchcock. According to the author, the birds in the film represent an audience's collective gaze. It is suggested that the terror of the film stems from the inhuman and unexplainable nature of the birds' gaze. Details on the romance between the characters Melanie and Mitch are also presented. Other topics include aggression, film audiences in the 1960s, and camera techniques used in the film.
