The article comments on the role of renin-angiotensin system in the development and progression of heart failure. The local angiotensin (Ang) II concentration is increased in the failing human heart. The heart releases Ang II into the peripheral circulation and it improves patient's prognosis. Angiotensin-converting-enzyme and chymases are the enzymes involved in myocardial generation of Ang II.
