- Title
Theology, Torture and the United States: Do Abrahamic Religions Have Anything Meaningful to Say?
- Authors
Fadel, Mohammad
- Abstract
This article discusses changes in the practice of torture in the U.S. and in religious teachings. Torture has always been condemned in the U.S. but this has changed since the terrorist attacks by al-Qa'ida. Torture in Islamic teachings is seen as worse than killing because it undermines the ontological relationship of equality between human beings. It is stated that religion can play an important role in redeeming the morality of torture in the U.S.
