- Abstract
Aims: This study aimed to determine the socio-economic characteristics and tendency of consumers who buy unpacked milk and dairy products from the periodic markets in Isparta. Methods and Results: Descriptive statistics, ANOVA and chi-square tests were used in the data analysis. According to study results, it was determined that the share of the household's monthly average open milk expenditure in food expenditures was 14.87% and the weekly open milk consumption was 4.58 L. In addition, it was determined that the expenditure on open milk increased with the increasing in the income level of the household. On the other hand, it was determined that 97.22% of the households with children under the age of 14 consume open milk. Conclusions: Open sale and consumption of milk in developed countries has lost its existence due to the fact that it is offered for sale in unhygienic conditions and poses a risk to human health. In the process of harmonization with the European Union, it is of great importance for Turkey to take the necessary steps in this regard and to ensure healthy and safe milk consumption. Significance and Impact of the Study: : It can be said that consumers buy open milk and dairy products in Isparta is a problem in terms of safe milk consumption. Meeting the safety raw milk supply is one of the most important issues for policy makers. Increasing the rate of milk processed in the industry is important both in terms of creating added value and safe food. This study was carried out with consumers who buy open milk and dairy products from traditional periodic markets in Isparta. This situation increases the original value of the study.
