- Abstract
The objective of this review is to illustrate the emissions of biodieselblends employed in marine engines, focusing on the impact of mixed fuels on marine engine emission characteristics, discussing the limitations of the application of biodiesel-diesel blends in marine engines and suggesting possible solutions. The sulfur oxide (SOx), carbon monoxide (CO), carbon dioxide (CO2), particulate matter (PM) and hydrocarbon (HC) emissions are reduced to a great extent when biodiesel-diesel blends are used in marine diesel engines. The excessively fast burning rate increases the temperature in the cylinder, thereby promoting nitrogen oxides (NOX) generation. Research shows that biodiesel will reduce dependence on imported petroleum and reduce emissions of ship exhaust. Biodiesel and its blended fuels have bright application prospects as alternative fuels for marine diesel.
