- Abstract
The article discusses a research which examines the effect of the natural killer T (NKT) cells activation of Novosphingobium aromaticivorans in the liver-specific autoimmunity causing primary biliary cirrchosis (PBC). The N. aromaticivorans showed that after the infection of the liver of mice, the existence of lymphocyte infiltration, granuloma formation and severe bile duct damage occurred like in the PBC disease. The study revealed that activation of NKT cells caused liver damage in humans.
